Where to Buy Edam in NZ
In store
Sometimes you want edam today, not later in the week. Buying it in person is the fastest way there.
Which shops carry it changes over time, so we keep that on a page of its own rather than in a post that quietly goes out of date. Start here: Where to Buy Gouda in NZ. Edam sits alongside the gouda on that page, and it is the one we update when something changes.
If nothing near you is listed yet, check back there rather than driving around hopeful. A chiller in one suburb tells you nothing about the next one over, and shelf space moves around more than anyone outside the trade expects.
Worth knowing before you go: every wedge in every chiller was cut from a wheel at some point, by someone, somewhere. Ours are cut here in New Zealand, from wheels that came in whole. There is more on that below.
Online
Ordering is simpler than driving. The retail pack is Dutch Edam Cheese 210g, cut and packed at this end before it goes out.
We deliver nationwide, so where you live is not the obstacle.
Buy the amount you will actually get through, then buy it again. That is the honest way to shop for dutch edam cheese online, and it beats a big buy that sits in the door of the fridge losing interest. Keep it wrapped, keep it cold, cut from it as you go.
What freshly cut actually means
The phrase gets used loosely, so here is ours, plainly. The wheels come from Europe whole. We open them in Auckland and cut them here, then pack them.
A whole wheel is its own packaging. While it stays closed, the inside stays as it is. Cutting is the moment that changes, because you have made a fresh face on the cheese and exposed it to air for the first time.
The short version: the gap between a wheel being opened and a pack reaching you is shorter when the cutting happens here rather than offshore. That is the whole reason we import wheels instead of cartons of finished packs.
If you are a cafe or a deli
Retail packs are built for a fridge at home. Behind a counter you usually want something else. Start on Wholesale Gouda for NZ Foodservice and tell us what your kitchen goes through in a week.
The wheels come in whole and get cut here, so a foodservice order comes off the same wheels as everything else.
