Tricolore Gouda: colour, ingredients and a simple toast idea
Tricolore Gouda brings colour, a creamy texture and a peppery flavour to a cheeseboard. But its appearance alone cannot tell you what is in it. The ingredient list is the place to check.
What gives Tricolore Gouda its colour?
Our Tricolore Gouda ingredient list declares flavouring and colouring: beta-carotene and annatto norbixin. It would be inaccurate to describe this cheese as having no added colouring, or to say that each colour comes from a particular herb or vegetable.
The cheese contains pasteurised meadow cow’s milk (65%), pasteurised goat’s milk (35%), salt, microbial rennet, starter cultures, flavouring and colouring (beta-carotene, annatto norbixin). Contains milk. Always check the label on your pack for ingredients and allergens.
Made in the Netherlands, our Tricolore Gouda is cut and packed in Auckland in 180 g portions. Try it cubed with crackers, sliced into a sandwich or melted on toast.
Tricolore Gouda toast with tomato and pesto
A simple way to serve it warm.
Ingredients
3 slices of Tricolore Gouda
Sourdough or ciabatta bread
A little basil pesto
Sliced tomato
Olive oil for brushing
A pinch of salt, to taste
Method
Brush the bread lightly with olive oil and toast until golden.
Spread with pesto, then add the tomato and cheese.
Place under a grill until the cheese melts. Watch it closely so the bread does not burn.
Season to taste and serve warm.
Check the bread and pesto labels too if you are cooking for someone with an allergy.
What to serve alongside
Try a green salad or crisp apple slices. For drinks, a Sauvignon Blanc or a chilled lager makes a simple pairing.
Keep the cheese refrigerated at 1–5°C and follow the best-before information on your pack.
